Jinja City Marathon

How It Started

Join us as we run together to celebrate Jinja and make history with the very first Jinja City Marathon.

The Jinja City Marathon was born out of a shared vision: to showcase Jinja’s incredible beauty, vibrant culture, and adventurous spirit to the world while creating a meaningful impact in the community. This is the start of an annual tradition that will transform lives and put Jinja on the global map.

Jinja, famously known as the Source of the Nile, has long been celebrated for its stunning landscapes and adrenaline-filled activities. Yet, it was clear that the city needed a platform to bring together its people, promote tourism, and address critical community challenges. That’s where the idea of a marathon came in—a unique event that combines fitness, fun, and purpose.

The marathon was envisioned not just as a race, but as a movement to:

  • Promote Jinja as a tourism hub in Uganda and beyond.
  • Raise awareness and support for maternal healthcare in the region.
  • Foster unity and celebrate the resilience of the Jinja community.

This inaugural edition, happening on May 24, 2025, is the culmination of months of planning, collaboration, and passion from local organizers, partners, and stakeholders.
